These coffins are increasing in popularity as an alternative to the more traditional wooden version. Wicker simply means woven and, in this case, woven in willow. The coffins are supplied in the traditional shape or with rounded ends.
They are all hand woven and are 100% biodegradable as all the fittings are made from natural products.
The Athelney is a wicker basket coffin woven with our highest quality willow. It is named after the village of Athelney, which lies just a few miles away from our farm. Athelney is said to be the place where King Alfred hid from the Vikings in the home of a peasant woman, whose cakes he mistakenly let burn.
The Athelney is a highly customisable coffin, woven in a simple classic style and weave. The main body of the Athelney can be woven in buff, white, or antique willow.
The Athelney can also be customised to incorporate coloured bands and handles. These are available in a range of hand-dyed colours.

This wicker coffin is one of our most environmentally friendly as natural barked willow is simply left to dry. Toggles complement the natural feel.
