Thank you for your friendship Alan, you were always up for a good talk after mass or after a game of badminton. You were fun to be around and taught me some valuable lessons as well. I am glad we found out through a DNA test that your haplogroups are J-FT295974 and H5a1g1a. You will be sorely missed. May the Lord be with you.
Now in my seventies, I continue to count myself very fortunate that, accepting an offer of employment by Alan, I was able to spend the first ten years of my career at E W Beard Limited in Victoria Road Swindon.
Setting foot in those offices for the first in time in April 1967, little did I know what a first-class learning experience I had been offered or how Alan would personally ensure opportunities for my advancement over those happy years. With a work ethic second to none and consistent in behaviour, Alan led by example in constantly striving to maintain the highest professional standards throughout this long established, highly reputable business.
I could not have had a better foundation on which to base my working life than that provided by this diligently hard-working, kind, considerate, highly astute but profoundly self-effacing businessman.
I will never cease to be grateful to Alan for both employment and the following years of friendship and together with Mary, my wife, offer sincere condolences to Eileen and family on their loss.
