We miss you dearly. Especially your cheeky smile whilst talking about the books you are reading, or discussing the reviews in the Which magazine, and the long chats about everything and anything, not forgetting encouraging Dad to eat more fruit!

    Dearest Irene,
It was so nice to see you on Mondays when you came to volunteer in the Eye Clinic; you had been coming to help us for quite a while, even throughout the pandemic you turned up without fail. We cannot believe you have gone! It was such a shock to hear the sad news; you were so full of life, riding your bike everywhere & volunteering & helping to look after your friend Kieth.
Irene, you had a heart of gold & did so much for so many, such a kind & friendly lady. You made us smile, we miss you & hope you know how much we appreciated having you around. With love from your friends at the GWH Eye Clinic Xxxx

Irene, I can’t quite believe you have left us.

I have known you for 15 years and it’s been an absolute privilege to have worked with you. Managing the Volunteers at GWH I get to meet so many wonderful and giving people but you will always stand out as one of the kindest and most caring people I have ever met. Nothing was ever too much trouble for you and you always offered to do that little bit extra.

I loved catching up with you and hearing how your week had been, you were always so busy doing things for other people. That’s how I think you’ll be remembered by everyone a kind lady with a beautiful smile who loved to look after and help people.

    You will be so missed.

Our friendship spanned more than 60 years, you were always supportive, caring and funny. In our youth we shared adventures on our bikes and the ups and downs of our respective football teams, your Rangers and my Carlisle United. Then later in life separation by distance didn’t dull the strength of our relationship, long letters, then phone calls, always picking up where we left off! You always amazed me with your thirst for life and taking on challenges. One of life’s truly wonderful people, I was so shocked to find you were gone, I’ll miss you so much. Rest in peace Irene. x
