Some thoughts by Paul Deacon
Syl Clarke,
Syl, as she was known to her close friends, was the most straightforward person I have known, with a genuine, caring nature. There was no side to Syl, what she presented to the world was refreshing, unfiltered honesty and humour. Over the years she stoically faced all the many challenges that were presented, particularly with regard to Tony’s and her own health. Throughout these many trials Syl always retained a sense of humour, and despite being housebound she was always interested in the events of the village and people she knew.
For decades two notable highlights in her Calendar were Musicalea and the annual carol singing in the pub, and up until relatively recently The Rose and Crown provided an important social link for herself and Tony.
Syl often talked about her grandchildren, all of whom she was immense la proud.
Syl was so lucky to have such caring neighbours like Karen and James, and her full-time carers – The first Priscilla and more recently Priscilla Number 2 and Gifti, deserve special mention for their genuine care and dedication above and beyond their contracts.
